Electronic readers may be all the rage these days, but the Kirkland Library is bucking the trend by smashing its book-lending record.
The milestone was reached in mid-December, following renovations to the building and the extension of library hours. Kirkland Mayor Michel Gibson said the facility’s popularity had surpassed all expectations. The mayor was on hand when the bell rang out as Kirkland resident Monika Illig checked out the 200,000th book of 2016. Illig received a Chapters gift card.
