Wait times for Montreal’s buses and métros are scheduled to get shorter and the Blue Line will keep running a little later starting Monday.
Under promises made in the Société de transport de Montréal’s 2017 budget, released in November, commuters are never supposed to wait more than five minutes for a métro before 10:30 p.m., and more trains are being added during rush hours to the Orange, Green and Blue lines. Service on the Blue line will be extended to run 30 minutes later. Right now, the last trains in both directions start their runs at 12:15 a.m.
The public corporation will also be adding 100,000 hours of bus service during the year.
STM officials said it’s the biggest increase in métro service since the Laval line opened in 2007, and the biggest hike for bus service since 2002, added in part to offset delays caused by road construction.
Other changes for 2017 include the expansion of the iBus system, with GPS trackers installed in buses, allowing users to track buses on their smartphones or see when the next one is departing at métro stations on digital screens.
Thirty of 52 new AZUR métro trains are expected to be added to lines by the end of 2017. And 107 new hybrid buses will be purchased, equipped with air conditioning.
