A westbound section of the Metropolitan expressway in Anjou was closed to traffic Friday afternoon after a truck smashed a pole holding up a traffic sign, a Transport Quebec official said.
The accident occurred on Highway 40 westbound, just past Roi-René Blvd., after 2:20 p.m. The driver of the truck was injured and sent to a hospital, while the driver of another vehicle was slightly injured.
Transport Quebec sent inspectors to the site to verify the strength of the structure supporting the traffic sign overhanging the expressway.
François Giroux, a ministry spokesperson, said Transport Quebec and Montreal police are investigating how the truck smashed into the pole.
The section of the westbound highway after the Ray-Lawson Blvd. entrance until the Anjou Interchange was closed through the evening, as well as the left lane of the eastbound highway.
