The Plateau-Mont-Royal borough is asking Quebec’s transport ministry to allow it to lower its speed limits to 40 kilometres an hour on all its main thoroughfares and 30 kilometres an hour on main arteries in school zones throughout its territory to improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists.
In 2015, the borough reduced speed limits on local roads to 30 kilometres an hour. If approved by the ministry, the new limits will come into effect in May.
