It was a 43-minute police pursuit —but it was anything but hot.

Repentigny police found themselves involved early Wednesday in a chase that began in their municipality and ended in L’Epiphanie. But their quarry, while refusing to pull over, also refused to exceed the posted speed limit.

The pursuit began at about 1:42 a.m., when Repentigny police tried to pull over a car for a permit check. Problem was, the car wouldn’t stop, although the driver didn’t exactly set a speed record trying to get away.

“He respected the speed limit,” said Sgt. Bruno Marier. “He even slowed down at level crossings, on curves. But he just wouldn’t stop. The whole thing happened between 50 and 70 kilometres an hour.”

Marier said the chase never made it onto a highway, meandering on secondary roads through Repentigny, L’Assomption, and L’Epiphanie.

“Finally, because we were now in their jurisdiction, the Sûreté du Québec intervened and (their squad cars) forced him into a snowbank,” Marier said.

The driver of the car was taken in for a failing to stop for police as well as a series of bailviolations.

However breaking the speed limit is not among the charges faced by the suspect.
