One snowmobiler is dead and another seriously injured early Friday in the wake of an accident that occurred during a nighttime ride.
The incident occurred about 1:30 a.m., as three snowmobiles travelled along a trail in Sainte-Martine, about 30 kilometres southwest of Montreal.
The driver of the leading vehicle, a 38-year-old resident of the area, died after his snowmobile struck an outcropping of snow and he was hurled from the vehicle.
The second snowmobiler also hit the outcropping and was seriously injured, although his life is not believed to be in danger.
The third snowmobiler was not injured.
