Montreal’s municipal authorities won’t be appealing the Jan. 12 superior court judgment in the case of the Badr Islamic Centre in the St-Leonard borough.
The city of Montreal has tried to shut down the Blvd. Langelier mosque for several years, largely because local business owners noted issues with parking due to the increased traffic to the mosque.
Authorities presented arguments based on zoning in the area. The claims were rejected by the judge.
The city of Montreal has opted not to explain why it won’t be seeking an appeal. Montreal Mayor Denis Coderre announced the decision Wednesday along with elected officials of St-Leonard.
