QUEBEC — The provincial electoral district of Sainte-Marie—Saint-Jacques in Montreal will not vanish, according to the Commission de la représentation électorale, while Crémazie will change its name to Maurice-Richard.
The Québec solidaire member for Sainte-Marie—Saint-Jacques, Manon Massé, has been fighting for several weeks to keep the riding from being eliminated.
As for Maurice-Richard, several proposals were considered before the decision was made to change the name of the Crémazie riding.
The legendary hockey player has lived there for about 50 years, and is recognized for his community involvement. This is the first time an athlete is honoured with a riding name.
The commission also announced that a riding will disappear in Mauricie.
