A stolen car was set on fire in a parking lot at the Cap-St-Jacques regional park in Pierrefonds-Roxboro on Jan. 5.
Montreal police constable Daniel Maheu from Station 3 said a passerby called the station to report a vehicle on fire and that by the time the police arrived on the scene, the fire was almost out.
The sport utility vehicle was completely gutted by the flames.
The licence plate had fallen off and was lying on the ground near the rear of the vehicle. A vehicle with that plate, a blue 2007 Dodge Nitro, had been reported stolen sometime between Dec. 30 and Jan. 2 in Verdun, police said.
Officers found a pack of matches and an empty tissue box near the vehicle.
