ICYMI: Police corruption allegations, bomb threat at Concordia, fire department troubles, P.K. Subban returns

Here are five things to keep you in the know this week:

“It’s not a good time for the SPVM.” Reports of suspected bribes from the Mafia, an investigation into allegedly manufactured evidence against fellow police officers, and the deputy chief suspended. Chief Philippe Pichet has had to deal with a lot this week. Read more.

A bomb threat against Concordia University was emailed to media, forcing the evacuation of buildings at its downtown campus. Hicham Saadi, a 47-year-old student, has been charged with several crimes. Read more.

Nobody wants to be chief of Montreal’s fire department. After the previous chief retired, along with several other senior officers, there are few qualified people willing to step in and take the job. Read more.

P.K. Subban came back to Montreal, playing the Canadiens for the first time since he was traded to the Nashville Predators last summer. It was an emotional night for Subban, who was honoured with a pregame tribute. Read more.

The Canadiens acquired a handful of new players as General Manager Marc Bergevin was busy at the NHL trade deadline. Added to the team are Jordie Benn (from Dallas), Brandon Davidson (from Edmonton), Steve Ott (from Detroit), Dwight King (from Los Angeles) and Andreas Martinsen (from Colorado). Most were traded for late draft picks, but the team lost Greg Pateryn, David Desharnais and Sven Andrighetto. Read more.
