A man in his 50s is in police custody Monday after barricading himself in a rooming house in Terrebonne Sunday evening.
The incident began at about 7:35 p.m., when a friend of the man visited him at the rooming house only to be met with threats and a claim from the man that he was armed.
The man’s friend left the rooming house and called police, who set up a perimeter around the building, evacuated the rest of its occupants and spent the next three and a half hours trying to convince the man to surrender.
At about 11 p.m. the man gave himself up and was submitted to a psychiatric evaluation to determine his mental state.
No firearms were found, although police did seize a sabre from the room.
Police expect to decide today what charges, if any, will be filed against the man.
