Two people are in custody and Montreal police arson investigators are on the case after a Molotov cocktail was thrown at a restaurant in Montreal’s Notre-Dame-de-Grâce neighbourhood early Tuesday.

Police said the incident occurred sometime around 1:20 a.m., and came to their attention when two officers en route to another call noticed flames inside the Boustan restaurant on Sherbrooke St. W. near Grand Blvd.

After the officers brought the fire under control, they noticed the restaurant window had been smashed and a crude firebomb thrown inside. Soon after, the officers spotted two individuals nearby and, after questioning them, felt they had reason to believe the pair might be involved in the incident.

A 28-year-old man and a 39-year-old woman were scheduled to be questioned by police Tuesday while arson investigators meet with restaurant managers in an attempt to see if any of the events were captured on surveillance cameras.

Damage was limited and the restaurant’s Facebook page confirmed it was reopened for business.
