Kirkland is preparing to amend some zoning rules in order to allow two outdoor ball hockey rinks to be built next to the existing Excellent Ice 3-on-3 indoor facility located between Hymus Blvd. and the Highway 40 service road.
The existing zoning for the property is industrial with permitted commercial/recreational usage but an amendment is required to include outdoor rinks, according to Mayor Michel Gibson.
Gibson said the proposed outdoor rinks will complement the existing indoor rinks at excellent ice which opened up on Edmond St. about 15 years ago. Considering no citizens showed up to voice their objections during a public consultation held last week, the proposed outdoor ball hockey rinks won’t be a bother to residents living on the south side of Hymus Blvd., he said.
