Soil rehabilitation at former PCB storage site in Pointe-Claire begins next week

The cleanup of a site contaminated by PCBs and other toxic materials in Pointe-Claire will enter a new phase next week.

Technorem, a company specializing in soil characterization and rehabilitation, begins work at the Reliance Power Equipment site on Hymus Blvd. where toxic materials were illegally stored for years.

During the winter, the company Sanaexen Environmental Services relocated contaminated containers and transformers from the property to authorized disposal sites. As well, around 600 metric tonnes of soil were extracted to limit the risk of contamination of the runoff during the spring thaw.

The winter cleanup was monitored by the Ministère du développment durable, de l’environnnement et de la faune des pars (MDDEFP). The ministry will also monitor the area during the spring thaw to ensure no contaminants migrate from the site.
