Two West Island men died on Saturday after their canoe tipped over in strong winds and high waves on Lake of Two Mountains near Oka.
The two fishermen, 31-year-old Craig Walker from Pierrefonds and 34-year-old Raymond Adams from Dollard-des-Ormeaux, were pulled from the water by police shortly after 6 p.m. after a citizen called 911 to report seeing a body floating near the shore in Ste-Placide.
Both victims were wearing life jackets. The winds were gusting up to 50 kilometres an hour at the time of the accident. Autopsies will be performed on both men, but the frigid conditions of the lake could have brought on hypothermia leading to unconsciousness and then drowning
