Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue’s iconic boardwalk will, for the first time, be open to dogs starting May 1.
Although owners have to use a leash, dogs will be allowed on the boardwalk between May 1 and Oct. 31, from 9 p.m. to noon but there are no time limits for the rest of the year.
The city had said it was responding to requests made by dog owners to allow them to take their pets for strolls along the boardwalk. Dogs used to be prohibited at all times from entering the boardwalk, a popular destination, especially during the summer months.
This provision is part of an amended dog-control bylaw adopted by council earlier this month.
Owners also need to obtain a permanent dog tag, which will cost $25.
