A homeowner in Pierrefonds-Roxboro was served with an injunction in Quebec Superior Court on Wednesday, May 28, ordering him to fix a broken fence around his swimming pool – the scene of a tragedy in 2011.
A four-year-old boy from the neighbourhood drowned in the pool in June 2011 after crawling through a space between the fence boards on the property owned by Khaled Daoud on Jacques-Bizard Blvd. Daoud received the first statement of infraction from the borough in 2010 and continued to ignore repeated warnings to bring the fence up to code even after the release of the coroner’s report, in January 2013, which ruled the child’s drowning a preventable death.
Daoud was represented by his brother in court on Wednesday. The brother told the court that repairs had been done to the fence. An inspector will verify the repairs within the next two days to see if the fence is up to code. If not, the city will take over the repairs and charge Daoud for the work.
More to come.
