A groundbreaking Lester B. Pearson School Board initiative has been recognized as a leader in education. The LBPSB’s Family and School Support Treatment Team (FSSTT) was presented May 24 with the Quebec English School Boards Association’s first-ever Excellence in Education Award.
The LBPSB initiative, which was created in 1995, provides support and therapeutic interventions for students with social-emotional and behavioural difficulties and their families.
The program’s full-time behaviour technician works with resource people in 13 elementary and five high schools to provide comprehensive support to students in need.
“The team’s approach is such that everyone involved in the student’s world is considered to be a contributing member of the treatment team and part of the interventional plan,” said Cindy Finn, the LBPSB’s director of student services.
For the past five years, the program has also offered to children in need a free 12-day summer camp, Camp Venture.
