New commercial building approved in Dollard

Dollard-des-Ormeaux is paving the way for a new commercial building to house a pharmacy at the former site of a gas station.

Council is moving ahead with a resolution to allow the construction of a 8,400-squarefoot commercial building at the corner of Hyman St. and Sunnybrooke Blvd., which will be adjacent to an existing small strip mall.

A Uniprix outlet will occupy the main floor of the new building, while offices will be permitted on the second floor.

The zoning amendment for this particular project is being done through resolutions, said city clerk Sophie Valois.

“Since this specific construction project will only affect one property in the Zone C-2b, it does not require the adoption of a bylaw to amend the zoning of this zone,” she explained, adding the overall procedure is similar to that of a traditional zoning change since there will also be a process for a public consultation and a request for participation in a referendum.

Mayor Ed Janiszewski noted the property is being subdivided due to the new building requiring a larger footprint than the gas station had, and that the town is authorizing a two-storey building.

The public notice regarding the draft resolution should be posted on the city’s website next week.
