The Montreal police service is looking into what spokesperson Manuel Couture described as a suspicious fire that broke out in the Lachine borough Monday night.
The fire started in an apartment building on Ouellette Ave. near Saint-Jacques St. around 8:15 p.m., said Couture.
A total of five people were evacuated from the apartment building, which also has commercial spaces on the first floor. No injuries were reported.
“In this case a lot of the apartments happened to be vacant,” Couture said.
The blaze was considered to be under control around 10 p.m., and Couture said the SPVM’s arson squad will be investigating the cause of the fire.
