Work begins this week on a mural that will transform an exterior wall of the Pointe-Claire Canoe Club into a natural landscape showcasing Lake St-Louis and many of the water sports it makes possible.

A’shop, an artist-run collective known for creating lively and brightly coloured murals in outdoor spaces, will execute the new work marking the 25th anniversary of the club in 2014.

The collective was chosen by Pointe-Claire’s Public Art Committee in partnership with the Stewart Hall Art Gallery.

The goal of the project is to create a mural that will bring beauty to our community and help sustain its vitality and energy,” Pointe-Claire Mayor Morris Trudeau said in a statement released on Monday.

“This is our first project for a permanent public mural, and we hope that it will lead to others in the near future.”

Work on the mural is set to begin on Wednesday, Sept. 17.

Citizens are invited to watch the mural artists in action as they put paint to brush and transform one of the exterior concrete walls of the canoe club into a must-see destination. The nautical-themed mural will be officially unveiled at the Pointe-Claire Canoe Club, 73 Lakeshore Rd., in a public ceremony on Oct. 19.

Another mural on a commercial building in Pointe-Claire Village depicting the village’s first 300 years of history boosted civic pride when it was unveiled in 2012.
