A Quebec coroner has concluded that a West Island’s woman’s death in a crash on Highway 40 in Pointe-Claire this summer was accidental but that the woman was under the influence of a prescription drug at the time of the accident.

The coroner’s report released Monday found 66-year-old Denise Kean of Kirkland died July 3 from injuries she sustained when she lost control of her car near the St-Jean Blvd. exit and ended up under a truck at about 3:20 p.m.

Two other cars were involved in the accident but there were no other fatalities.

According to the coroner’s report, investigators on the scene determined no mechanical or environmental factors contributed to the car-truck accident. Multiple witnesses reported the woman had lost control of her vehicle for no apparent reason.

The coroner’s report went on to say that toxicologists later found that the woman had zopilcone in her blood at the time of the accident.

Zopiclone is a prescription drug commonly used to treat insomnia.

The report concluded the woman’s death was accidental.
