A deal has been reached for the naming rights for the new privately-run sports dome in Baie-d’Urfé.

Philipp Schumacher, who heads Scitec Management Inc. which operates the 80,000-square-foot indoor turf sports complex geared toward soccer, has announced a five-year sponsorship deal with Volkswagen Des Sources. The new moniker is Complexe Dôme Multi Sports Volkswagen Des Sources.

The sports dome, just off Highway 40 on Morgan Blvd., has been fully functional for the past few months. Groups that have already used the facility include the Lakeshore Soccer Club; FC Trois Lacs; Académie Canadienne Prospective; PlayClub, which runs adult soccer leagues; and the Premier Football Academy for its sports-étude programs, Schumacher said.

The dome’s full-length indoor field, designed for 11-aside soccer, can be converted into three smaller sections in order to accommodate seven-aside leagues.

Work on the $9 million sports dome project started last year on a lot near the entrance of the Baie-d’Urfé industrial park.

The sports dome is twinned with a $25 million hotel project being spearheaded by the Rosdev Group, which owns both lots. Schumacher signed a 10-year lease with an option to buy the lot where the dome is situated.

Construction of a 140-bed Marriott Courtyard franchise, to be operated by Rosdev, began about two months ago. The new hotel isn’t expected to be completed until some time next fall.
