A man tried to hold up a bar early Friday in the Lachine borough, but customers intervened before he could get any money.

The man entered the bar on Victoria St. near 6th Ave. about 1:20 a.m. with his face covered with a neck warmer and threatened the cashier, ordering her to turn over the contents of the register. As he was doing so, several customers at the bar intervened and the man ended up fleeing the scene, but not before he cut one of the men in the arm with the sharp object he was carrying.

The man made off in a scooter, and was found by police at the corner of St-Antoine St. and 10th Ave. Police arrested the 57-year-old man, and he will face charges of armed assault and armed robbery.

Montreal police Constable André Leclerc said the man who was injured, also aged 57, was taken to a hospital for treatment, but his injury is not serious.
