Mother found dead in river, baby found dead at home in Laval

Laval police have confirmed that a deceased woman who was pulled from the Mille-Îles River on Wednesday is the mother of a newborn son who was discovered dead at home in Laval the same day.

Laval Police Lt. Geneviève Villemure said it was premature to conclude they were investigating a murder-suicide case, but didn’t rule it out, either.

Villemure said police will have to wait for a coroner’s findings before making any such statements.

“The boy’s father is cooperating 100 per cent with police in the investigation,” Villemure added.

The baby’s father called 911 at 10:15 a.m. from a home on 57th Ave. near Troyat St. in the Laval West district, and ambulance technicians went to the scene. The baby was pronounced dead at the home.

Villemure said the baby was less than one month old.

Police erected a command post Wednesday morning to begin looking into the circumstances of the death.

Meanwhile, the body of a woman in her 30s, who turned out to be the baby’s mother, was found in the Mille-Îles River near 55th Ave. and Riviera St.

The body was found by several witnesses who called 911 on Wednesday morning, said Villemure.
