After over two years of roadwork and major infrastructure repairs, Ste-Anne St. in Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue is ready to receive.
The city is launching a program of summer activities today designed to coax people back to the picturesque, waterfront adjacent street that had become a hot spot for summer fun before bulldozers lumbered onto the main commercial strip in 2011 and tore up the sidewalks and road.
Not that there won’t be the occasional road closure to deal with. The Cruisin’ at the Boardwalk parade, featuring 500 hot rods and classic cars shuts down the street, June 15, from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Back for another go is the popular, nine-week Wednesday Concerts on the Boardwalk series which begins June 19 at 7:30 p.m. with the pop/funk group Under Our Groove. In case of rain, the concerts are moved to the Harpell Centre, 60 St. Pierre St.
And Thursdays will be dedicated to family-friendly activities, beginning July 4.
Over the next few days, the next instalment of the ongoing series “On Thursdays I get the hang of …” takes place Thursday at the Harpell Centre at 7 p.m.
The focus of discussion this time is learning basic phrases in Spanish, a useful skill for the world or armchair traveller. The discussion is free and no registration is required.
The Honey Festival is at Ste-Anne’s Market (www.marchesteanne.ca), Saturday. Experts will be on hand to talk about the particulars of beekeeping and honey’s health benefits.
And for those with a more daring disposition, the high-spirited Adrénalia event is at Aumais Park, 300 Cyphiot St., Sunday, from noon to 5 p.m., with break dancing, a zip line, skateboarding and stunt bike demos, a climbing wall and inflatable play structures. The event is free. The food and drinks are not.
