A six-year-old boy is in critical condition in hospital after he was struck by a pickup truck while riding his bicycle in Côte-St-Paul.
The truck driver was coming out of an alley when he struck the child, who was riding on the sidewalk. The young boy was not wearing a helmet, said Constable Manuel Couture of the Montreal police. Couture said the boy’s life is in danger.
The 44-year-old driver of the pickup truck was taken to a hospital to be treated for shock.
Speed and alcohol were not factors in the accident, Couture said.
The accident happened near the intersection of Biencourt and Eadie Sts. just before noon. After coming out of the alley, the driver was turning north on Biencourt St. when he hit the child on the sidewalk.
