A 13-month-old boy died Wednesday after choking on food while eating at his daycare.
The incident happened about 11:45 a.m. at the CPE La Ribambelle, in the Aylmer sector of Gatineau. When staff saw the boy in distress, they tried to resuscitate him, but he was pronounced dead in a hospital in Hull.
The Service de police de la Ville de Gatineau (SPVG) does not believe there was any criminal intent, but the Quebec coroner is investigating, in accordance with policy for all deaths of children under the age of six. An autopsy will be carried out on Thursday.
