Saudi blogger Raif Badawi was hospitalized after refusing to eat for two days, according to a message sent out by his wife on Twitter Monday.
According to Ensaf Haidar, her husband decided to start a hunger strike from Friday to Sunday.
Badawi was arrested in 2012 in Saudi Arabia. He was sentenced to 1,000 lashes and 10 years in prison for criticizing the Saudi clergy. He received 50 lashes in January 2015 during a public display.
Haidair and the couple’s three children have made Sherbrooke their home for the time being.
Amnesty International has been putting increased pressure on Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to force the blogger’s release.
