Pride Week, which ends Sunday with a parade through downtown Montreal, is still necessary, despite significant gains for the recognition of the LGBTQ community in Quebec in recent years, said Québec solidaire MNA Manon Massé.
In an interview with The Canadian Press, Massé said there is still much work to outreach and education to do, especially on trans issues.
Massé said prejudices persist, especially among health professionals and the education sector.
The MNA also said that the transphobic and homophobic acts or attacks still occur daily in Quebec.
Massé hopes everyone participates in the Pride parade Sunday, a time for “unity,” she said, “to express that Quebec is proud of its diversity.”
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has already confirmed his presence. Trudeau’s presence is a “very important signal,”according to Massé, because by attending the event, the Prime Minister has said, “I recognize that you exist.”
