Eight years of work to replace the deck of the federal portion of the Honoré Mercier Bridge has finally been completed, and the bridge will completely reopen to traffic at 5 a.m. Monday.
The Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Inc. said Sunday the work was completed a week ahead of schedule, crediting a seven-days-a-week work schedule and the work of construction workers based in Kahnawake to replace 78 precast concrete panels at the junction of the South Shore access ramps. A total of 982 panels were installed during the eight-year project. JCCBI said the work is expected to extend the bridge’s service life by at least 75 years.
