As Users’ Rights Week gets underway, the Regroupement provincial des comités des usagers (RCPU) is organizing a sort of “speed dating” to inform patients on how to properly file complaints.

The health network users’ committee event will take place Thursday at Complexe Desjardins from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will provide citizens with information on lodging complaints about health and social services, and will cover such topics as patient confidentiality and protection from reprisals.

Organizers are calling the event the “speed dating” of complaints.

A safe space will be set aside at the Complexe for those who wish to start the complaint process.

In an interview with Presse Canadienne, RCPU director Pierre Blain insisted on the importance of filing complaints properly so that the quality of the health  network can be improved.

One of the biggest issues, he said, is that people will file a complaint with anyone and anywhere.

“You have to do it in a rational way. It’s certain that when we have an emergency and we are with a little baby that is crying, that’s maybe not the best time to file a complaint. However, when we are able to better articulate our arguments, our complaint will have a greater effect,” he said.

The mandate of the RCPU is to protect the rights of users in the health care network.
