More than 1,000 people turned out Wednesday evening at Place Émilie-Gamelin in downtown Montreal for a rally to denounce “rape culture.”
Other rallies were planned throughout the province.
A statement posted on the website of the Fédération des femmes du Québec (FFQ) said the demonstrations were in response to recent reports of alleged sexual assaults.
The protesters are demanding an end to violence against women and the criminalization of the victims, while encouraging them to come forward.
Afterward, the demonstrators marched through the streets.
A concert was scheduled to take place at Club Soda after the demonstration at Place Émilie-Gamelin.
