Laval police arrested three men and two women following an operation Wednesday aimed at neutralizing a network of suspected cocaine traffickers in Montreal and Laval.

The Laval Police Department said there were morning raids at two locations on Ernest-Cormier St. in the St-Vincent-de-Paul district of Laval and Eadie Rd. in Montreal’s Côte-St-Paul district.

Police said they made four arrests during the raids and a fifth later in the day. The five arrested will be arraigned on drug-trafficking charges on Thursday, said Laval police Lt. Martin Lachance.

Tips from the public led to the operation, with the investigation beginning in October.

Meanwhile in the Montérégie, provincial police raided nine businesses and cars in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, St-Anicet and Beauharnois.

Eight people were arrested in that operation and could face charges of possession of cocaine, and possession with intent to traffic.

More than 30 Sûreté du Québec officers were involved in the Montérégie investigation that began about a month ago.
