An 18-year-old driver is likely to face justice for not only failing to rescue a pedestrian he hit, but also for fleeing the scene with a stolen vehicle.

The incident happened around 2:15 a.m. on Sunday morning on St-Laurent Blvd., at the intersection of Bernard St. in the Mile-End neighbourhood.

The pedestrian, a 28-year-old man, was about to board the passenger side of a vehicle when he was hit.

The driver ended up crashing into a corner light, he then fled by stealing a taxi cab whose driver had stopped at the scene to help the victim. The pedestrian’s life is not in danger according to police.

The suspect was arrested more than thirty kilometres away in the Sainte-Rose district of Laval, thanks to the collaboration of the taxi company that alerted all its drivers, who helped police find the suspect.

The Montreal Police Department made the arrest. The 18-year-old could face charges of leaving the scene of an accident causing injuries, impaired driving and vehicle theft.
