Montreal’s arson squad was investigating two incidents that occurred in the early hours of Monday.
The first was a fire in a quadruplex that police believe was criminally set around 1 a.m. in the Pierrefonds-Roxboro borough.
Thirteen people were evacuated after the fire broke out in the back of the residential building on Gouin Blvd. West near 2nd Street. None of the evacuated residents were injured, but there was extensive damage to the building.
The cause of the fire was unknown Monday morning.
Gouin Blvd. West was closed for several hours in both directions between 1st and 2nd Avenue, but it was reopened by 8 a.m.
Police were also investigating what appeared to be a failed arson attempt in Dorval on Halpern St. near Côte-de-Liesse Rd.
Someone threw a Molotov cocktail through the window of an industrial building around 6:45 a.m., said Montreal Police Constable Jean-Pierre Brabant.
No fire broke out, but there were a lot of accelerant chemicals inside the building, Brabant said.
